Description
These soft and chewy sugar cookies are buttery, perfectly sweet, and coated with sugar for a classic treat everyone loves.
Ingredients
- 2½ cups (318 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¾ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 2 sticks (226 g) unsalted butter, cool room temperature
- 1¼ cups (250 g) granulated sugar, plus ¼ cup (50 g) for rolling
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and 1¼ cups sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. Scrape the bowl as needed.
- Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla; beat until combined. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until dough forms.
- Place remaining ¼ cup sugar in a shallow dish. Scoop dough into balls (about 3 tablespoons each), roll in sugar, and arrange 2 inches apart on prepared sheets. Lightly flatten with the bottom of a measuring cup.
- Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and lightly golden. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Store in an airtight container up to 3 days.
Notes
For extra flavor, sprinkle a touch of cinnamon sugar on top before baking.
